Orestis Vasileiadis, DJ Orestis, is a Greek DJ based in Brussels, with more than 10 years behind the decks. He learned the job in Mykonos, playing three seasons in one of the most demanding nightlife environments in Europe, where a room turns over every few days and no two crowds share a language. He has spent the six years since in Brussels, a city with the same mixture of nationalities but people who stay, and where the skill is not surprising a crowd but holding one together. He holds a four-year residency at Papillon Schuman, has twice been the host DJ of the Brussels Greek Food Festival, and plays weddings, private celebrations and corporate events for international organisations headquartered in the city. He is a co-founder of Sounds Greek Events. Alongside the paid work, he plays regularly for Greek communities across Europe: Brussels, Vienna, Leuven, Lille and Luxembourg, and performs pro bono for the Brussels Greek Community, Dames Hellènes and Hellenic United Women, on the principle that diaspora cultural life runs on volunteer labour and stops when nobody volunteers. His sets move between Greek, electronic, Afro, Latin and RnB. He works in Greek, English and Bulgarian.
