Let me answer the question everyone googles and few DJs discuss openly. Prices in this industry vary enormously, and couples and companies deserve to understand why before they compare quotes. Weddings and corporate events start at €600 excl. VAT for a DJ set, and private parties within Brussels at €500 in a space of your own, or from €1,500 for the venue privatised with the DJ included at Papillon Schuman, where I'm resident, with an all-inclusive package at €2,500 for fifty guests. Sound and lighting are quoted separately, because what a room needs varies enormously, and the full package with speakers, microphones and lighting lands around €1,000. The typical ranges
Based on what I see in the Belgian market, a rough orientation:
- Hobby or semi-pro DJs: often €250–450 for an evening. Sometimes great value, sometimes exactly what it sounds like.
- Established professional wedding DJs in Brussels: a standard wedding package commonly lands around €600–700, and experienced names typically charge in the region of €700 for roughly six hours. That is the realistic centre of the professional market.
- Premium and full-production offers: €900 to well beyond €1,500 once you add substantial sound and light for large rooms, extended hours, or photo and video coverage.
- Corporate events: broadly similar mechanics, though weekday dates and shorter formats can price differently from Saturday weddings.
Treat these as orientation, not gospel, the spread is wide precisely because the product varies so much.
What you are actually paying for
An evening's fee is never an evening's work. Behind a professional quote sits:
- Preparation. Briefing calls, playlist building, timeline coordination with your venue and planner. For a wedding, this is easily a full working day before I play a note.
- Equipment. Professional sound, lighting, microphones, and, crucially, backups for all of it. Owning and maintaining reliable gear is a permanent cost that hobbyists skip, which is partly how they charge €300.
- Transport, setup and breakdown. A "six-hour" wedding is a ten-to-twelve-hour day with loading, driving, building and striking the setup.
- Experience. The invisible line item. Knowing how to restart a dead floor, rescue a collapsed timeline, or manage a delicate zeibekiko moment is what you cannot buy at the budget end.
- Insurance and legitimacy. Liability insurance and proper invoicing. Many venues in Belgium now require proof of both.
What moves a quote up or down
- Date: Saturdays in May–September and December corporate dates are peak; a Friday in November is not.
- Hours: overtime past a package is normal, agree the rate in writing beforehand.
- Guest count and venue: sound for 400 people in a hall is a different production from 80 in a restaurant.
- Distance: travel within Belgium is often included or modest; events in NL, FR, DE, the UK or Greece are quoted with travel, and yes, DJs do travel for the right event; I do regularly.
- Extras: lighting design, photo booth, photography, video, a second space with separate music.
How to compare quotes fairly
- Compare total, all-in prices for the same hours, not headline rates.
- Check exactly what equipment is included, and whether backups exist.
- Ask who plays on the night. A cheap agency quote for "a DJ" is not comparable to a named professional.
- Read the overtime and cancellation terms before signing, not after.
- Weigh preparation. A DJ who offers a proper briefing meeting is selling a different product from one who asks for a playlist by email.
My advice
The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest evening, a silent dance floor is the most expensive thing that can happen at a party you spent thousands on. Pay for the professional centre of the market or above it, briefed and in writing, and the music becomes the best money of the whole budget.
